Atletico Madrid will be keen on moving to the top spot in Group D of the Champions League as they host Bayern Leverkusen.
Simeone’s men started their campaign with a 2-2 draw at home to Juventus. It was followed by a comfortable 2-0 away win to Lokomotiv Moscow. The Spanish club is currently in second with four points in the group.
Meanwhile, Bayern Leverkusen is yet to register their first points on board in the European Competition. Leverkusen’s two defeats in the campaign have come against Lokomotiv Moscow and Juventus.
Date- Tuesday, October 22 | Kick-Off- 10:25 PM (IST) | Venue- Wanda Metropolitano Stadium
Kieran Trippier and Renan Lodi should return to the team sheet after being benched in the 1-1 draw versus Valencia La Liga.
Stefan Savic’s muscular problem keeps him out of the forthcoming fixture, though, Mario Hermoso should be made available in central defence.
Vitolo is also ruled out due to a hamstring issue. Teenage-sensation, Jao Felix will also miss out against Leverkusen because of an ankle injury sustained against Valencia. With that being said, Thomas Lemar, Saul Niguez and Koke should fill in the midfield. Thomas Partey, Diego Costa and Alvaro Morata should be in attack.
Jonathan Tah is expected to be back in contention after recovering from illness. Charles Aranguiz is out due to a foot injury while Daley Sinkgraven sustained an injury to the thigh. Leon Bailey, however, is back in training after recovering from a muscular problem. Kai Harvertz is believed to feature at wide position. Lucas Alario should be in charge of the attack up front.
Atletico Madrid: Oblak; Trippier, Gimenez, Hermoso, Lodi; Saul, Koke, Thomas, Lemar; Costa, Morata
Bayer Leverkusen: Hradecky; Weiser, Tah, Bender, Wendell; Aranguiz, Baumgartlinger; Bailey, Demirbay, Havertz; Alario
In the previous six meetings between the two sides, three games have ended on level terms. Meanwhile, it’s Atletico Madrid who has won two games during that period in contrast to Leverkusen’s solitary win.
Thomas Partey in the attacking midfield role can prove to be pivotal for Atletico Madrid. The 26-year-old has scored one goal in two appearances this season, while also having a pass accuracy of 91%
Kai Havertz in midfield could play a big role for Bayern Leverkusen. Havertz has scored twice and has an assist under his belt in eight appearances so far.
