A controversy has been sparked during the 3rd Test match between England and Pakistan. The English wicketkeeper Jos Buttler’s catch to dismiss Fawad Alam has been surrounded by the questions as Buttler allegedly broke a rule during the grab.

Fawad Alam’s dismissal under scrutiny

In the Pakistan first innings, Fawad Alam arrested Pakistan’s top-order collapse alongside the skipper Azhar Ali and he was looking all set to score a big knock. However, during the 37th over of the innings, English wicketkeeper Jos Buttler took a sharp catch off Dominic Bess off-spin bowling to dismiss the left-handed batsman.

Buttler took three outstanding catches during the first innings and Sky Sports Cricket broadcast analyzed Buttler’s wicketkeeping skills and the improvement he has shown during the game. However, during the slow-motion replays, his gloves could be seen passing the stumps while the delivery was bowled. One of the Twitter users was quick to point out the wicketkeeper’s mistake and reckoned that Fawad Alam should have been reprieved.

As per the law, the delivery must have been called a no-ball which would have saved Fawad from getting dismissed.

What does the law say?

As per the Law 27.3, “The wicket-keeper shall remain wholly behind the wicket at the striker’s end from the moment the ball comes into play until a ball delivered by the bowler touches the bat or person of the striker or passes the wicket at the striker’s end. In the event of the wicketkeeper contravening this Law, the striker’s end umpire shall call and signal no ball as soon as applicable after the delivery of the ball.”
