The Delhi born batsmen Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir share a great deal of admiration for each other. Even though they have involved themselves in various fiery on-field clashes, both of them have often praised each other for their varied attributes. Gautam Gambhir in the latest Star Sports Cricket Connected episode revealed the two biggest strengths of Indian captain Virat Kohli.

Gambhir-Kohli bond

Gautam Gambhir has been one of the senior players who spotted Kohli’s immense talent from his early days. He had been following him right from his early Ranji days. Both of them have played together for the Delhi Ranji team and later for the Indian national team. Also, Kohli’s first man of the match award was actually presented to Gautam Gambhir for his marvelous century but the southpaw decided to give it to the then young Virat Kohli for his contribution in that match as a token of motivation.

Gambhir praises Virat Kohli’s fitness

Gambhir along with former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan was invited to the cricket connected show in Star Sports to discuss the genius of Virat Kohli in the shortest format of the game. The former KKR captain went on to praise Kohli’s fitness and claimed that he has turned his fitness into his strength. He further claimed that Kohli is the best runner between the wickets and it is achieved due to his uncomparable fitness.

“He (Kohli) was always a very smart cricketer, but then he turned his entire T20 career into a very successful one, just by being supremely fit.

“Probably because he does not have the strength of Chris Gayle, he doesn’t have the ability of AB de Villiers, he probably does not have the ability of Jaques Kallis or Brain Lara,” Gambhir said on Star Sports.

“The biggest strength he’s got is now his fitness and he’s turned that into his game as well, that’s why he has become so successful, so you got to give it to the guy.

“The most important thing is that he runs really well between the wickets, not many people do it,” added Gambhir.

Virat Kohli rotates the strike better says Gambhir

Gambhir went onto praise the Indian captain’s tremendous ability to rotate the strike and claimed that it is what helps him to have an upper hand above the players like Chriss Gayle and AB de Villiers who are better than him in terms of ability.

“There are very few cricketers in world cricket at this time who can rotate of every ball and that is what Virat Kohli does really well and that’s why he’s different from the rest,” said Gambhir.

“Chris Gayle or AB de Villiers don’t have that ability to rotate the strike, especially against spin bowling, but Virat Kohli has that, that’s why he averages 50.”
