Rishabh Pant is never out of action. When he is batting, his aggressive intent means there is no dull moment. And when he is standing behind the stumps, he is constantly chirping. On the first day of the fourth Test between Australia and India, a funny incident involving Pant happened that reflected Pant’s hyper-excitement.

In the 84th over of Australia’s innings, Natarajan bowled a delivery that swung away. Aussie batter Cameron Green followed the ball and tried to poke at it. Pant collected the ball behind the stumps and started appealing for a caught behind the wicket.

However, no one from the slip cordon joined Pant and even the bowler seemed uninterested. Even then, Pant was too sure of the edge and in fact started asking Ajinkya Rahane, who was in the slip cordon, to go for a DRS review.

Rahane declined Pant’s request. However, he kept on asking the Indian captain to go for a review. Pant’s relentless pleading made Rahane laugh. Rohit Sharma, standing in the slip cordon, too couldn’t stop laughing as Pant came back to his position.

Indian bowlers toild hard as fielders give Australia a reprieve

Injuries to Jasprit Bumrah and R Ashwin meant India had to field an inexperienced bowling attack consisting of M Siraj, N Saini, S Thakur, T Natarajan, and W Sundar.

However, Indian bowler bowled tight lines and lengths to keep Australian batsmen in check. India removed the Aussie quickly but then the fielders dropped catches of M Labushagne who made the most of these chances and scored his first hundred of their series.

Courtesy of Labushagne’s hundred, Australia made 274 for the loss of five wickets at the end of the first day. India now have a big task of getting rid of Australia’s lower order on day two and then will have to bat incredibly well.
