Match Preview: IRE vs ENG Dream11

World Champions England return to the home of Cricket just 10 days after winning the World Cup at Lord’s.

The match is being seen as a proper practice match for the English team for the all-important Ashes, which is scheduled to start from August 1.

The four-day test match, the profile of both the opponents, means that the hosts will start the match as huge favorites. However, in some sense, it’s a derby, and there a few debutants in the English team, so the visitors may cherish their chances.

Match Schedule:

IRE vs ENG, One-off Test Match

IRE vs ENG Team News:

England

  • This one-off Test match was always going to be a warm-up game for the hosts, and an opportunity for the selectors to test the talent pool.
  • That said, experienced bowler James Anderson was in the preliminary squad to face Ireland but had to pull out after injuring his calf during a match for Lancashire.

  • While in terms of the first-timers, Jason Roy and Olly Stone are set to make their debuts in Test matches. Captain Joe Root also confirmed that the duo will be in the playing 11 as well.
  • Roy deserves his shot at the longest form of the game after playing a huge role in England’s maiden title win at the World Cup.
  • While Stone was unlucky not to earn a Test Cap before this game, as he was part of England’s set-up for the Carribean Tour, with a right calf injury robbing him of a chance at the start of this year.

  • Then there is Chris Woakes, who played a crucial role for England in the World Cup and no doubt is pushing for inclusion in England’s team for the Ashes.

Ireland:

  • Almost all the players in Ireland‘s squad play in England and across the counties. If the familiarity of things is anything to go by, then the team has experience.
  • Tim Murtagh is there and so is one of Ireland’s finest Batsman Paul Stirling, with both of them can easily claim Lord‘s to be their homes, after dominating the Home of Cricket with ball and bat respectively in the last decade or so.

Squads:

England:

Joe Root (c), Moeen Ali, Jonny Bairstow, Jason Roy, Stuart Broad, Joe Denly, Rory Burns, Sam Curran, Jack Leach, Olly Stone, Chris Woakes

Ireland:

William Porterfield (Captain), James McCollum, Tim Murtagh, Kevin O’Brien, Boyd Rankin, Mark Adair, Stuart Thompson, Lorcan Tucker, Gary Wilson, Andrew Balbirnie, Andrew McBrine, Simi Singh, Paul Stirling, Craig Young.

IRE vs ENG Probable playing 11:

England:

Rory Burns, Jason Roy, Joe Denly, Joe Root (C), Jason Bairstow (WK), Moeen Ali, Sam Curran, Lewis Gregory, Chris Woakes, Stuart Broad, Olly Stone

Ireland:

Paul Stirling, William Porterfield (C), Andrew Balbirnie, James McCollum, Kevin O’Brien, Gary Wilson (WK), Andy McBrine/Simi Singh, Stuart Thompson, Tim Murtagh, Mark Adair/Craig Young, Boyd Rankin

What should be the combination?

Not considering a once in a blue moon kind of result, England are going to dominate the game. Even winning one session for Ireland will be a tough ask.

For sure, it means more players from England could well be the right approach to make your Dream11 team for this particular game. However, we advise you to choose only the first four Batsmen from England’s team, for the hosts won’t be throwing their wickets and may not need the 2nd innings at all.
