IPL 2020 auctions

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 auctions were concluded yesterday which saw many big names going under the hammer and getting the deserving prize tags. Some went unsold which include many unimaginative names as well.

However, this is how it goes in IPL auctions and omissions of big names might not be that surprising now. Some young Indian starlets also fetched big money which is definitely a voluptuous sign for Indian cricket in the coming years.

One such name in the auction was Maharashtra born 21-year, all-rounder Digvijay Deshmukh who was acquired by the four-time and defending champions Mumbai Indians for his base price of INR 20 Lakhs. This would be the first instance when this youngster will don an IPL jersey.

Deshmukh is already a Bollywood starlet

Before even making his way into the Indian domestic circuit, Digvijay Deshmukh has already appeared in a 2013 Bollywood movie Kai Po Che, featuring Rajkumar Rao, Sushant Singh Rajput, Amit Sadh and Manav Kaul in the lead roles.

The movie revolves around three characters Rajkumar, Amit and Sushant who strive to make Ali Hashmi (portrayed by Digvijay Deshmukh) become a future cricket star. He played this role as a child artist.

Who is Digvijay Deshmukh?

Digvijay was born on April 12, 1998, to a typical Marathi family hailing from Ambajogai, Beed district in Maharashtra. He made his First-Class debut this year against Jammu and Kashmir on Dec 17, 2019, in a Ranji Trophy game.

In that fixture, he scored 85 in two innings and scalped 6 wickets as well. Talking about domestic T20s, he made his debut against Chattisgarh on November 12th this year.

He has been more prominent with the ball as compared with the bat in T20s reason being he bats lower down the order. From 7 matches so far, he has managed 9 wickets with his best figures being 3 for 34 against Punjab.
