The man who made cricket popular in India. The man who helped the game of cricket to globalize across the country which even inspired the greatest cricket to have ever born in Sachin Tendulkar to make it big in this sport. Yes, we are talking about the great Kapil Dev, the first world cup winning captain for India in 1983.
In his latest interaction with Bollywood actress Neha Dhupia, Kapil Dev was asked to pick an all time XI and Kapil Dev picked some legendary names in his team.
India have historically produced several greats of the game and it is definitely not an easy task to filter out 11 greats.
Kapil Dev had no issues in picking 2 openers as Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag with Virat Kohli, Rahul Dravid and Yuvraj Singh forming the core of middle order. Here’s what Kapil Dev had to say
There’s a test match is different, there’s a one day cricket is different. ODI…if I have to pick, I would say definitely Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Virat Kohli, will be there, Rahul Dravid will be there, Yuvraj will be there.
One spot that Kapil Dev picked without even having a second thought was that of the wicket-keeper’s role.
“Wicket Keeper is only Dhoni. Nobody can touch his spot,” Kapil Dev added
Jasprit Bumrah made his debut just about 4 years ago but has already reached great heights in his cricketing career.
You have Zaheer Khan, you have Srinath. Recently Bumrah, I can say. He’s done extremely well. Anil Kumble, all-time great spinner, and Harbhajan. These are the cricketers who come to my mind very much there
Kapil Dev’s all time great XI
Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Rahul Dravid, Yuvraj Singh, MS Dhoni, Javagal Srinath, Zaheer Khan, Harbhajan Singh, Anil Kumble, Jasprit Bumrah
