This is the fifth match of third season of Tamil Nadu Premier league 2018 between Lyca Kovai Kings and Karaikudi Kaalai, both the teams managed to qualify to playoff last year of TNPL, when Lyca Kovai Kings defeated Karaikudi Kaalai in the eliminator, later LYC got defeated by Chepauk Super Gillies in the Qualifier 2. Both the teams will look for their first TNPL title as both the team have got experience and balanced squad.

A thrilling clash will be expected from both the teams, this year Lyca Kovai Kings comes under new captaincy Abhinav Mukund, where as Anirudha Srikkanth will lead Karaikudi Kaalai until Dinesh Karthik comes back from England tour. LYC has a experienced all-rounders and they got the best coach in the form of Monty Desai, and for KAR they will be without their star player Dinesh Karthik, and S Badrinath will be the headcoach of this team as he will be dealing with the more of the young players in his side.

Previously when this both team met each other, Karaikudi Kaalai won 2 matches and Lyca Kovai Kings has just won only 1 match, both the teams will try to start their campaign with a win in TNPL 2018.
