New Zealand won the first ODI by an impressive performance in all the three departments of the game. Batting first, Ross Taylor and Tom Latham played good knocks of 80 and 68 respectively to lead the team to a total of 266. Trent Boult starred with the ball taking a hat-trick in third over of the match and destroying Pakistan’s top order. Lockie Ferguson and Colin De Grandhomme also took three and two wickets respectively to provide a good win to the team by 47 runs. They will hope to lock the ODI series by winning tomorrow’s encounter.
Pakistan was unable to replicate their T20I success in ODI format and failed to give a tough challenge to New Zealand team in first ODI. Except for a few standout performances other players failed to perform well for the team. Shaheen Afridi and Shadab Khan were the key with the ball taking four wickets each while Sarfaraz Ahmed and Imad Wasim were good with the bat scoring 64 and 50 respectively. Shoaib Malik and Imam Ul Haq also got starts but could not convert it into a big score. A unison effort will be required from all players to save the series.
A good match can be expected between both teams.
