Ever since the Mumbai Indians dominated the recently concluded Indian Premier League, there have been lot of talks going regarding the Mumbai Indians management and the captain Rohit Sharma.
Many including Gautam Gambhir wanted Rohit Sharma to take over the white ball captaincy for India in place of Virat Kohli after Rohit Sharma’s unreal success as a captain at the IPL level.
Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra replied to Gautam Gambhir’s statement regarding the change in captaincy in his recent interview
“Gautam Gambhir believes that it’s misfortune if Rohit Sharma is not made India’s T20 captain. But I have a question that if Rohit was given the RCB team, will have won 5 titles? Just because Virat Kohli’s team doesn’t do well, doesn’t mean it’s his fault.”
There is no other player in the history of IPL to have captained his side to 5 IPL trophies except Rohit Sharma. He is a colossal when it comes to captaincy and he has proved time and again
irrespectiveof the team he had.
“Lot of people, I hear say that can he (Rohit) do it with other teams? Firstly, why shall I need to do it with other teams? There is a certain way this franchise wants to go and same direction I want to go as well, both as a player and leader,” Rohit Sharma was quoted as saying by Outlook
Mumbai Indians are a pioneer when it comes to scouting young talents and nurturing them and turning them into match-winners. The likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Krunal Pandya, and Hardik Pandya were all unearthed by Mumbai Indians and they are reaping rewards now for their visionary work.
“Did this team become good overnight? No. It’s just that this franchise doesn’t believe in chopping and changing. And every player, including Rohit Sharma, was available (2011) at auctions. Just that MI picked and believed in building a team,” Rohit Sharma added
