2013 Champions Trophy- the fondest memory with MS Dhoni, says Shikhar Dhawan

Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan was involved in a Twitter Q&A session recently. During the session, one of his fans asked him to name his fondest memory with the former Indian captain MS Dhoni. Dhawan, who has played numerous matches with the Indian legend opined that the successful campaign of 2013 Champions Trophy was his fondest memory with MS Dhoni.

The 2013 Champions Trophy was a career-defining tournament for Shikhar Dhawan. He scored 363 runs in five matches at an outstanding average of 90.75, which included two centuries. He was also the highest run-getter in the competition.

India finished the tournament undefeated and defeated the hosts England in a shortened rain-affected encounter at the Edgbaston in Birmingham to lift the Champions Trophy. The victory also made MS Dhoni became the only captain to win all three major ICC trophies.

MS Dhoni backed him despite poor show in the warm-ups, says Shikhar Dhawan

The Delhi born southpaw added that the credits for his performance should be given to MS Dhoni who backed him despite having a poor run in the warm-up games. It was Dhawan’s comeback series, and since then he had been a permanent member of the Indian limited-overs side.

“I have great memories with Dhoni bhai, especially 2013 Champions Trophy, which was my comeback series so he backed me a lot. I had not done well in my warm-up matches as well despite which he backed me. We did great as a team, did not lose a single match, started winning the warm-up fixtures, won the Champions Trophy. Those were the happiest moments on and off the field as they enjoyed a lot together,” the 34-year old stated.
