The Australian veteran southpaw Mike Hussey who is the batting coach for CSK in the IPL revealed an interesting incident that happened on the eve of the qualifier 1 against SRH in 2018 in his latest podcast.

Decoding Rashid Khan’s action

The Afghan wrist spinner who is the undoubtedly the #1 spinner in the shortest format of the game is a threat to reckon for any opposition team. Mr.cricket revealed that he got an important information regarding Rashid Khan’s bowling action on the night before the qualifier. Mike Hussey said,

The night before the qualifying final against Sunrisers Hyderabad, he (the analyst) sent me this split-screen of Rashid Khan, Woah, this is good, but I am not sure if I should be throwing this out to the batsmen the night before this massive qualifying final’. So, I am sitting on this information, and I am going back and forth – ‘Should I, should I not, would I want it’.

What did Hussey decided to do?

The information which Hussey got, confused him as he was not sure whether to pass on this useful information to the batters just before the night of a big game. Mike Hussey though decided to pass on the information.

MS didn’t reply anything to Hussey!

While the information excited some players like Faf but the 2 time world cup winning captain in Dhoni didn’t reply anything to Mike Hussey which the coach considers as a normal thing

MS, you didn’t really hear a reply (from), which is generally normal. We come to the game, we’re playing it and we’re in big trouble and MS is in the middle, and while he’s in the middle, we’re still thinking there’s a chance to win this game

CSK were in shambles when MS walked into bat. Chasing 140, CSK were reduced to 24 for 3 which forced the CSK captain to walk in. After struggling his way to 9 off 18 balls, Dhoni was bowled by a googly from Rashid Khan. In the end, CSK won the game courtesy Faf’s unbeaten 67.

Conclusion of the story!

When MS came back after getting dismissed to the dugout, he sat next to Mike Hussey and said a sentence that really made Hussey to feel bad.

Rashid Khan comes on to bowl, one of the very first balls he (Dhoni) faces, goes for the big cover drive – wrong ‘un, bowled through the gate. And I’m thinking ‘Uh, gosh. Okay, no worries.’ And MS walks straight off the field, and I am sitting in the dugout and he walks straight up to me and says ‘I’ll bat my own way, thanks,’ and sits back down,” Hussey added.

After the game was won by CSK, the man himself came and had a good chat with Mike Hussey which eased the nerves of Mike Hussey

As a coach, I thought my days are over forever! But, to MS’s credit, after the game, he was absolutely fantastic. He came up and spoke to me and we had a good chat. He said that the information was correct, but for him, he needed time to go away and process it and practice it
