United States had won their three first group games however they were run extremely close by Turkey as the game went into Turkey winning 93-92. They found their final group game against Japan in their vintage way when they thrashed Japan by 98-45.In the second group stage games they won their first game against Greece and their second group against Brazil 89-73 In their Quarter final game though they lost to an inspired performance from the French team by 79-89 in the upset of the tournament shattering the hopes of the pre-tournament favorites.
The Serbian team was one of the most dominant teams in the competition. Having won their first two group games very easily they even won against Italy which was a tough team by 92-77. They thrashed Puerto Rico in the first encounter of the Second group stage by 90-47. They lost to Spain though in their first real test by 69-81 and then lost the crucial quarterfinal game against Argentina by 87-97.
