The ICC Women’s World T20 is being held in Australia and the teams are competing against each other rigorously. The tournament is nearing the business end and only a few days of action is left before we see the all important knockout games.

India have sealed their berth in the semi finals of the tournament from Group A. Meanwhile in group B, the Proteas Women are in line to claim their semi final berth by winning both their matches so far.

Sensational catch to dismiss the skipper

South Africa women took on Thailand in their second game here at Makuna Oval, Canberra. Everyone expected the South African women to crush the Thailand women and likewise the Proteas didn’t make much of fuss in getting the job done. There was one brilliant moment to spark the crowd in what was otherwise a fairly dull affair.

The incident happened in the first ball of the seventh over when spinner Nonkululeko Mlaba came to the bowling crease for her last over. She bowled a low full toss which the Thai skipper Sornnarin Tippoch miscued of the toe end to the cover region. Laura Wolvaardt who was stationed at extra cover flew to her right and grabbed the ball inches above the ground to complete a one handed ‘specky’.

The 20 year old right handed batter has had a quiet tournament so far as she didn’t get a chance to bat in the South Africa’s games to date. She will be hoping to put up her hand in the knockouts for sure

Tough match coming up

The South African women had the easiest of wins against the Thailand women here in Canberra but a crucial game against Pakistani girls is coming up for them on Sunday. Their major batswoman Lizelle Lee top scored with a century today but will have to come good again for them to get past Pakistan.
