The Indian Premier League never fails to amaze the audience. We have been treated to some of the best of batting ever seen in a T20 game and witnessed the highest ever successful run chase in IPL history in last night’s game between Kings xi Punjab and the Rajasthan Royals.

Steve Smith and Sanju Samson were cruising along nicely in the second innings chasing a mammoth 224 runs for victory. Jimmy Neesham had already conceded 14 runs in his first over bowled during power play and came back into the attack in the 9th over. In the fourth ball of the over when Steve Smith was on 49 he tried to execute a slower ball bouncer but it came out horribly wrong. The ball nicely sat up to be smashed but Steve Smith did not expect such a worst delivery that he couldn’t even adjust to the bad ball. Instead he turned it around the corner to deep backward square leg for just a single.

Even the commentator Kevin Pietersen was shocked by the delivery and he said –“ We have just seen one of the best bits of fielding ever, I think I have just seen one of the worst balls in T20 cricket”. That best bit of fielding was a reference for Nicholas Pooran’s diving save beyond the boundary rope.

Historic run chase by Rajasthan Royals

The Rajasthan Royals pulled off a historic run chase here in Sharjah against the Kings xi Punjab. The Royals captain Steve Smith won the toss and chose to field and it looked like a terrible decision as Kings xi Punjab piled on 223 runs in their 20 overs thanks to Mayank Agarwal’s century, KL Rahul 59 and cameos from Glenn Maxwell and Nicholas Pooran.

But then the Royals captain came out with great intent to chase down the record score and scored a quick fire 50 alongside Sanju Samson who played a blinder. Rahul Tewatia transitioned from a villian to a hero in the run chase in a matter of 12 balls as he smashed 7 sixes to take Royals home in what was the highest ever successful run chase in IPL history.
