As world cricket’s greatest shopping festival, IPL Auction 2020 came to a halt in Kolkata on Thursday, some of the biggest names in world cricket and some relatively unknown young Indian players fetched huge sums of money from each franchise. Some of those deals were spot on and some others raised eyebrows of cricket fans. Here we bring you the top 5 buys and worst 5 buys from the IPL 2020 Auction.

5 Best Buys of IPL Auction

  1. Chris Lynn to MI:

Currently, in the form of his life, he has played various quickfire innings in the Abu Dhabi T10. It was an absolute bargain buy for MI to get him for 2 cr.

  1. Tom Banton to KKR:

This young English sensation was sold to KKR just for his base price of 1cr. Referred by legends as the new-gen Kevin Pietersen, this is an absolute steal for KKR.

  1. James Neesham to KXIP:

Probably one of the best all-rounders going around in world cricket right now, Neesham found his only bidder in KXIP.

  1. Yashaswi Jaiswal to RR:

This young Indian sensation was probably the best pick for RR keeping in mind the retention last year.

  1. Aaron Finch to RCB:

Aussie limited-overs captain could very well reduce the burden on Virat and ABD’s shoulders.

Worst 5 buys of IPL Auction

  1. Pravin Tambe to KKR:

A forty-eight-year-old getting picked up in an auction itself is a mystery. Other than providing guidance to Kuldeep & KKR’s lack of a leggie there is no reason whatsoever why KKR should go for Tambe.

  1. Sourabh Tiwary to MI:

Once capable of taking the ball from word go, Sourabh is not that same player any more.

  1. Piyush Chawla to CSK:

A team packed with spinners still going for an aged spinner who has passed his prime is beyond reasoning.

  1. Kane Richardson to RCB:

This Aussie pace bowler has below par economy rates in T20 and franchise cricket. He will have a really tough time bowling in batsman’s paradise Chinnaswamy.

  1. Varun Chakravarthy to KKR:

Mystery spinner, Varun was picked up in the last auction as well for huge money and just got 1 match to play where he was taken to the cleaners.
