The Ranji trophy is the premium domestic competition in India for first-class cricket. It consists of teams from all the regions of the nation. Now the business end of the tournament is taking place with only the finals to be held.

The semi finals battle is heated up with two heavyweight teams clashing against each other. Last year’s Vijay Hazare and Syed Mushtaq Ali winning team Karnataka are looking to win the Ranji trophy now to show their supremacy in Indian cricket while Bengal is aiming to show they are no pushovers.

Rare mode of dissmisal

In the ongoing second semi final clash between Karnataka and Bengal, there was an instance where the batsman thought he was gone for all money by an unlikely mode of dissmisal.

On day 3, Sudip Chatteejee was batting quite comfortably looking set to reach his half century. But he was almost dismissed by Ronit More via a rare mode of dissmisal- The Hit wicket.

Interesting turn of events

The incident happened in the 30th over of Bengal’s innings here in Eden Gardens. Sudip Chatteejee was on 44 off 84 balls. Ronit More came into the attack to get a wicket and it was just what the doctor ordered. He scalped the wicket of Sudip Chatteejee when the batsman made contact with the stumps trying to flick a ball on his hips to the fine leg.

The on-field umpires needed clarification on the matter and sent it to the TV umpire. That is when the TV umpire ruled out the delivery to be a No-ball for overstepping the crease. And so the batsman breathed a sigh of relief and continued to bat.

Watch the incident in the clip below. Even the commentators were heard saying that he was gone but somehow the batsman survived.

In the next over again was just a whisker away from being dismissed when Karnataka went for a review against the on-field call of not out for a caught behind. Finally he was dismissed in the following over LBW to Ronit More.

Karnataka are in a tough situation having to chase down a huge target of 352 runs to enter into the finals. They are currently at 32-1 at tea time on third days play.
