The vice-captain of the Indian limited-overs team and the No:2 ranked batsman in the world Rohit Sharma is just 4 runs away from creating another record in his career.

Rohit to go past Lara, Sachin and Ganguly

The majestic opener and 4-time IPL winning captain will go past Lara, Sachin and Ganguly if he gets 4 runs in the 3rd ODI as he will become the 3rd fastest batsman in the world to reach 9000 runs only behind the current Indian captain Virat and Ab de Villiers. Rohit Sharma has scored 8996 runs in 216 innings. The next best in the list is Sourav Ganguly who has taken 228 innings, followed by Sachin and Lara with 235 and 239 innings respectively.

Revived his career after becoming an opener

Rohit Sharma who made his debut in 2007 for India was never a permanent member of the team. He was always in and out of the team. He showed a lot of talent but couldn’t able to justify it. He was also termed as a wasted talent. The dashing Mumbaikar was a middle-order batsman who played his cricket largely at No:4 and No:5 until the former Indian captain MS Dhoni made him open the innings in the year 2013. Rohit Sharma turned into a beast when he opened the innings for India. Then Indian coach Duncan Fletcher and the ace Indian captain deserves a lot of credit in giving India its best opener ever. Rohit Sharma never looked back since he started to open the innings in limited-overs cricket and he recently achieved the record of fastest 7000 runs by an opener.

Rohit Sharma-The test opener

The vice-captain Ro”hit-man” Sharma has started a new chapter in his life as a test match opener. Rohit Sharma though was brilliant in limited-overs couldn’t able to succeed big in the longer format and he recently made his mark in tests when he was given the opportunity to open the innings which he took with both hands. He scored a double century and a century in his maiden test series as an opener against South Africa in India and the bigger challenge is awaiting him in New Zealand.

India will be playing 2 Tests, 3 ODIs and 5T20Is against New Zealand in New Zealand.

The series kick starts with the T20I series starting January 24th in Auckland.
