Mumbai Indians have struggled in the last couple of seasons and they looked determined to overhaul their squad ahead of the IPL 2024. The major shocker came ahead of the auctions as they traded Hardik Pandya from Gujarat Giants in an all-cash deal. Furthermore, the Mumbai-based franchise also announced Hardik Pandya as their skipper for the IPL 2024.
Mumbai Indians also traded Cameron Green to RCB to free their funds, while also releasing the likes of Jofra Archer, Jhye Richardson, Riley Meredith, and Chris Jordan. The five-time champions had a budget of INR 17.75 crore to fill 8 slots, including 4 overseas slots.

With a batting unit stacked with Indian batters, Mumbai Indians needed to strengthen their bowling unit. Despite a limited budget, the Mumbai-based franchise spent a good amount to sign two pacers as their first two buys in the auctions.
They signed South African pacer Gerald Coetzee for INR 5 crore and the Sri Lankan left-arm pacer Dilshan Madushanka for INR 4.60 crore. They bolstered their spin attack by signing Shreyas Gopal for INR 20 lakh.
Mumbai Indians also signed the Sri Lankan pacer Nuwan Thusara for INR 4.80 crore and also the season Afghan all-rounder Mohammad Nabi for INR 1.50 crore. In addition to that, they also signed three uncapped Indians for INR 20 lakh, respectively.
